Organization of the Oran Fire Protection District The
Oran Fire Protection District was organized by a vote of its citizens on August 8, 1995. The district was passed by a 64%
margin, with 151 for and 86 against. The Oran Fire Protection District is a volunteer fire department which is governed by
a five-member board of directors. The board consists of a President, Secretary, Treasurer and two members. The directors are
elected by the voters every two years for a four-year term. Terms are staggered so that only two or three members are elected
at a time.
The fire district is 28.2 miles square and includes the City of Oran. The district is funded through a
.40 per $100.00 assessed evaluation. Approximately two-thirds of the tax revenue for the district comes from inside the city
limits with the remaining one-third coming from the 27 square miles outside the town of Oran.
The Fire Department
has a chain of command of Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain, Lieutenant and firefighter. The Fire Chief
is responsible for the administration of the department under the direction of the Fire Department Board of Directors.
The
fire department uses a set of Rules and Regulations and Normal Operating Guidelines to provide a framework for department
operations. These may be viewed on this website in the future.
